If you wish to migrate to the UK and have over £1,000,000 of your own money to invest in the UK, then you can apply to come to the UK as a Tier 1 (Investor). You can also switch into this category if you are already here under Tier 1, 2 or 4 of the Points Based System. INITIAL APPLICATIONS

For an initial application to succeed, you must show that you meet the following requirements:

• You have funds amounting to at least £1,000,000. You can rely on money owned by you, your partner, or by the two of you jointly. You will need to show that you have your partner’s permission to use their money; and
• The money is held in a regulated financial institution, such as a bank, building society, credit union, stock brokerage or asset management firm; and
• The money is disposable in the UK; and
• If you have been a student in the UK in the last year, and you were entirely sponsored by a government or international scholarship agency, you provide evidence that they grant you consent to re-enter or remain in the UK.

Alternatively, if you have a loan to the value of £1,000,000, rather than your own money, you must show that you meet the following requirements:

• You have at least £2,000,000 in personal assets, taking into account any liabilities that you may have such as debts. You can rely on assets owned by you, your partner, or both of you jointly. You will need to show that you have your partner’s permission to use their assets; and
• You have a loan to the value of at least £1,000,000, granted by an authorised financial institution; and
• The money is held in a regulated financial institution; and
• The money is disposable in the UK; and
• If you have been a student in the UK in the last year, and you were entirely sponsored by a government or international scholarship agency, you provide evidence that they grant you consent to re-enter or remain in the UK.

EXTENSION APPLICATIONS

If you are already in the UK as a Tier 1 (Investor), you can extend your leave if you meet the following requirements:

• You have at least £1,000,000 in the UK; and
• You have invested at least £750,000 in the UK; and
• You invested this amount within 3 months of coming to the UK as a Tier 1 (Investor) or within 3 months of being granted leave to remain as a Tier 1 (Investor).

Your spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner and / or children may also be able to apply as your dependents.

The UK Border Agency changes the requirements of the Points Based System regularly and if you are refused leave to remain under the Points Based System and you appeal, you will only be able to rely on evidence that you submitted with your original application; you cannot introduce new evidence. It is therefore important that any application for a Tier 1 (Investor) visa is prepared carefully.
